Issue 2/2014: Personal and professional development of youth through non formal education

Editor coordinator: Alina Gabriela Burlacu

Non formal education debate was firmly placed on the international educational agenda in the 1970s, later resulting in the well-structred policies, innovative teaching methods, and specially designed programmes for young people that we know today. Often linked to the concept of long-life learning, non formal education, subject of high interest worldwide, was defined by UNESCO as any organised educational activity outside the established formal system, whether operating separately or as an important feature of some broader activity, that is intended to serve identifiable learning objectives. The European Union finds itself in the non formal education avantgarde providing a wide range of opportunities that gradually led towards a positive economic impact on the job market, encouraged an active citizenship and sustainable social inclusion.

We invite contributors to address the following themes, but they are not limited to:

  • The role of non formal learning in educational reform
  • Non formal education as a tool for democratization
  • Non formal education for sustainable development
  • Non formal education and youth employability
  • Recognition and validation of non formal learning in higher education
  • Innovative teaching techniques in higher education
  • The role of NGO’s and higher education institutions in promoting non formal education – study cases
  • Best practices in non formal education learning – successful national initiatives
  • Quality assurance in non formal education
  • Innovation in non formal education
  • The future of non formal education
